| The clients wanted a new play room and
bedroom for their listed Georgian terraced house in Marylebone, central
London. The challenge for Halvorsen Architects was to provide reasonable
accommodation on a very narrow site with onerous planning constraints.
The scheme was for a two-storey rear extension divided into three bays.
Each bay has a timber frame, but the frames are filled with different materials:
brick or glass, according to orientation, privacy and planning requirements.
There are views from the kitchen through the exceptionally light play room
to the garden. A new access to the garden has been created from the main
living areas via a lightweight steel stair from the new first floor terrace.
