House extension, Eskbank, Midlothian

House extension Eskbank, Midlothian

client private
engineers CRA Ltd.
contract value £82,000
total remodelled area 45 sq. m.

The previous pokey ground floor extension was replaced by much larger and extremely light sunroom. A new passageway was formed from the front door to the new extension, giving views to the garden from deep inside. Spaces either side of this were opened up with the stairs now being part of the living room.

As well as floor-to-ceiling glazing, the extension has a large roof light bringing light into the body of the house. The young clients were delighted with the transformation of the dark North facing part of the house into a series of interconnecting and very light spaces.

The new ground and first floor extensions are both clad in larch with similar detailing to unify all the new work.
