Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme

Gorebridge Main Street

Gorebridge’s attractive old town was awarded a Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme (CARS) grant by Historic Scotland (now HES) and Midlothian Council in October 2013. The five year programme helped restore buildings along Main Street and Hunterfield Road in the Conservation Area and included a series of training and education courses. Conservation architect Rod Lugg ran the scheme.

Gail Halvorsen was on the board of the CARS project for the five-year programme.

Halvorsen Architects was involved with several CARS schemes including:

  • Schools project – Gorebridge Past & Present
  • Newbyres Castle
  • Gorebridge Station – preliminary designs for the conversion of the Victorian building into a community cafe and information centre.
  • Town centre improvement scheme
