Edinburgh Chartered Architects Network (ECAN), the largest network of small architectural practices in Scotland, held an exhibition at the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland (RIAS) to celebrate its tenth anniversary.
The exhibition was held at RIAS in Rutland Square in October to celebrate the group’s achievements over the previous decade and incorporated a selection of member architects’ work.
The display took the form of a video presentation inside a timber “hut” in the exhibition space. The fragmented spaces around this installation housed archival material and soundbites from ECAN.
Since its official formation in 1998, ECAN has had a key role in influencing regulators, including building control and planning departments, to cut through red tape and ease the construction of better quality buildings. ECAN initiatives over the years include changing the Architects’ Registration Board’s regulations on reciprocal arrangements and introducing a new form of contract for small works between architects and clients.
