The brief was to replace and enlarge an existing poorly built 1970’s extension to a Listed Georgian terraced house on the edge of the Grange.
The challenge was getting light into the North facing extension and designing a connecting glazed corridor. The resulting zig-zag design of the glass roof was the result of balancing the client’s desire for maximum light and transparency, the complicated geometry of the exiting stepped extension, the planning authority while enabling easy maintenance.
We avoided the cost of a using a specialist glazing sub-contactor. Instead our engineer and joiner took on the responsibility for the structural glazing.
The result is a conservatory-style corridor which opens up the kitchen to the garden and gives the impression of the new bedrooms being separate from the original flat.
