Halvorsen Architects were asked to remodel and extend a house in Winchburgh, West Lothian. The core of the house was a 19th-century cottage which had been extended many times creating an incoherent layout.
The use of the rooms were changed in order to make the most of the views to the adjoining lake, bring in more light and rationalise the existing plan.
A new bedroom wing was added to mirror the central bay, giving a rhythm to the long elevations.
